I drank this on Christmas Eve, way back at the beginning of what became the Holiday Haze. Sorry for the abundance of Instagram photos lately! I’ve been a real blog slacker. I think the excessive amount of time spent in my jammies taking daily naps and watching bad TV has something to do with it.
So, this wine. It’s a unique one! Unique because it’s made from 100% Sangiovese grown in Napa (Atlas Peak specifically) and only 3 barrels were produced. Arnot-Roberts is one of my favorite California wineries. This 2009 Antica Vineyard Sangiovese stays true to their style- a new perspective on an Old World standard. Like making a remix of an original song that makes you forget about the original. There’s an echo of Tuscan hills but something totally fresh and new at the same time. I wish I had another bottle of this to lay down for a little while, because I think it’s just barely beginning to show its loveliness.

What a fantastic label design. I listened to the latest podcast, shame the wine wasn’t drinking quite as you had hoped.
It’s very interesting when old vines are discovered or alien grape varieties are grown in unusual regions like the Napa tempranillo I tried recently. It’s exactly like a remix or a cover version of a song or even a reinterpretation of a classic dish.
