I am going to start sharing some of my favorite wine labels with you! Because it certainly couldn’t hurt to look at a few more beautiful things each day. Right?
So. I’m obsessed with wine label design. It is a fact. And, who are we kidding, most people buy their wine based solely on what the bottle looks like and whether or not it “gives good label”, as I like to say. Come on, just admit it. BUT, I hope to give praise to some bottles that are just as yummy on the outside as they are on the inside. Which brings me to….
this bad boy.
The label is kind of all wrong but amazing at the same time. I am just drawn to it; the Vinho Verde meets Alsatian style bottle, the green/pink/gold color palette, the color of the wine itself. And then throw in the flowers I “borrowed” from my neighbor’s yard? My eyes! They’re pleased! It’s almost too much.
What is this wine, you ask? Well, It’s a Txakoli rosado! Exciting. I had never tasted a rosé from one of the Txakolina appellations in Spanish Basque country before, so I couldn’t wait to try it. This bottling is the 2010 Ameztoi Rubentis. It’s all tart strawberry, minerals, lime and has that slight spritz characteristic of most Txakoli. Seriously delicious and highly recommended. If you can spare about $20 bucks, it’s all yours.
While we’re here- I get asked quite a lot about how to read a wine label and decipher what all those words are and what they mean. So, every time I do a Label Love post I will break it down for you. Just in case you were wondering…
Available at Domaine LA, K & L and Wine House.

This was one of my favorites – hints of pepper!! Thank you for sharing with us.
Just started reading your blog (and back-dated posts) as I am totally in to the Crush podcasts (between yours and Joy’s, I no longer exercise to music!) Anyway, I was glad to find that buying wine based on the label (for me it can be the bottle) is not unique to me. Check these out, http://www.croteaux.com , I am obsessed with these bottles and may have to visit LI again just to get more.
leslie! thanks so much for your feedback and for listening to the podcast! since recording my own, i finally started listening to podcasts as well! it IS the best to exercise to, right? and those labels are pretty. i sometimes think i secretly daydream about becoming a wine label designer….
