by whit on July 14, 2010

I have been eagerly awaiting this moment….without any further ado…

No- this is not a slightly embarrassing article of my clothing. It is…. the Wine Monkey.

It’s amazing, isn’t it? Well- it can be yours. Leave a comment (tell me what your favorite summer sipper is right now) and I will pick a winner on Friday. If you’re not the lucky lad or lass that gets the goods, you can buy one in Los Angeles at domaineLA!

My favorite summer sipper right now is Rose, anything made in a dry, Old World style. And the best of the rose is the Domaine Tempier Bandol!

Ashley July 14, 2010 at 2:10 pm

Rina July 14, 2010 at 2:11 pm

omg I MUST HAVE IT! I love sock monkeys and wine. My favorite summer drink is Relax Riesling. Perfect end for summer days!

Jessica July 14, 2010 at 2:13 pm

A sauvignon blanc from NZ! I’m not picky…

Megan B July 14, 2010 at 2:14 pm

Oooh, I think sangria is the perfect summer drink…

I will go with Fetzer Gewurztraminer, it’s very crisp and sweet, a good dessert wine but also great when sitting outside in the sun. However I am not yet very wine-savvy, my wife is slowly teaching me what all is out there. Even better in my opinion is: A homebrewed American Pale Ale, somewhat restrained on the hops, sitting at about 4.0% alcohol, with very crisp carbonation level. (However any Rye Pale Ale will also fit my needs!)

Kind of embarrassingly, I really like the Honey Moon Viognier from Trader Joe’s. But a Vinho Verde also always hits the spot.

Fuzion is a pretty great red (I’m not a huge fan of red…so that says a lot) and pretty much any Zinfandel rocks my summer drinking list…with French Cross at the top. :)

I love this Green Apple Reisling from a local winery – well not too local, it is a 4 hr drive, but totally worth it! It’s from Lumina Winery in Wilmington, NC. The wine is nice, slightly sweet and tart, and wonderfully refreshing!

Suzy July 14, 2010 at 2:37 pm

A local blush wine, Habersham Winery Cherokee Rose.

Tom July 14, 2010 at 2:37 pm

2007 Petite Syrah from Eagle Castle in Paso Robles . . . not exactly a Summer sipper, but I likes me mah reds . . .

Catheroo July 14, 2010 at 3:37 pm

Lately I’m loving Wente’s Pinot Noir Rose. After a hot day, it’s perfect!

Ben E July 14, 2010 at 3:42 pm

Prairie Fume by Wollersheim Winery, a local sip near my hometown.

rachel crisman July 14, 2010 at 3:44 pm

Frontera wine is cheap but it happens to be my favorite drink in all the world right now.

Chris July 14, 2010 at 5:08 pm

My summer red wine fave is Layer Cake Malbec. I also really love the label ont he bottle of Pinot Evil – the three monkeys – haven’t tried the wine yet, but the label is so worth it!

Shauna Lobre July 14, 2010 at 5:45 pm

Effie July 14, 2010 at 6:19 pm

nothing beats a white wine sangria… yum!

nikki July 14, 2010 at 6:33 pm

so adorable! definitely cherry wine from a michigan winery…yum!

Shauna July 14, 2010 at 7:42 pm

Interesting that someone else loves Layer Cake, though my personal fave is the Primitivo. However, while everyone else I know seems to be throwing back Blue Moon’s like they’re going out of style, my favorite summer drink is whatever white Bordeaux we happen to pull out of the basement each night (which, let’s be honest, is just an excuse to spend some time in my 20-degrees-cooler-than-the-rest-of-the-house basement).

PS: I’m digging the redesign of the blog; are more changes a’comin?

Oooo this one is the one I always crave on sunny summery days, Oyster Bay Malborough Sauvignon Blanc. It bursts with tropical fruity flavours yet is still nice and zesty. I love drinking it with goats cheese….mmmm..mmm yum

bruce July 15, 2010 at 7:14 am

nice monkey… its brilliant… wont you need all of his friends for a blind tasting?
A nice summer refresher for me is definetly the Gaja Barbaresco Sori San Lorenzo…
oh wait wrong wine….
i think i have been working too much and not sipping in the summer sun enough….
i have been putting a hurting on
the Freixenet Brut Cava Cordon Negro …. at a little over 10 bones, it will not let you down!!

At the moment, anything red and Italian is my favorite. Big robust flavors great for drinking (healthy stuff!) and great for cooking (Lamb, pork and beef, oh my!). It also matches my current language endeavor (Io non capisco l’Italiano), my current diet plan and most of my outfits (stains look to be on purpose XD).

I make some killer sangria that was a hit at parties in Texas!
Now if you only knew my feelings about sock monkeys…
