First things first- a little love letter to Jayne’s Gastropub. It is a thing of beauty, carefully and thoughtfully designed by owners Jayne Battle and Jon Erickson. The restaurant is beautiful, the food is beautiful, they are like the most beautiful couple ever… tons of beauty all up in there. I highly suggest you get your butt to San Diego and pay them a visit. Now on to the vino!

lineup

Jeremy brought some of the Piedmontese big guns out to celebrate our trip and also showcase some super fabulous wines and winemakers from the region. You can see the complete lineup here as well as Jeremy’s coverage of the tasting here. It was great to be able to revisit the Elvio Cogno Anas-cetta and some Bruno Giacosa loveliness. I was sipping with Anthony Wilson and, once again, couldn’t help but stick to my analogy of Giacosa wines being like a home outfitted in Armani Casa. Other highlights were the slightly oxidative and funky 2007 Cascina Ulivi Gavi and the 2005 Vajra Barolo. Speaking of Barolo…

It was a fantastic turn out and a great group of Italian wine loving people. Thank you to Jon and Jayne for hosting and Jeremy for choosing a stellar line up and just generally being awesome (and letting me pour with you- it was an honor.)

As the sun set, the bottles started popping and the food started rolling out of the kitchen in abundance. We took our seats around the big wooden tasting table and got to work, joined by many fabulous folks and friends. The party carried on to the wee hours and involved a bottle of Movia Puro and a punch bowl full of water among other things….stay tuned.

Such an awesome night! And such great photos as always, Whitney! was super fun to hang and pour with you… The best part of the Barbera 7 experience was getting to know everyone and the camaraderie that we shared… looking forward to the next time… :-)

I second what you said, J. I haven’t had a night like that in years. Reminds me of those days w/my Masters class in Parma, sitting around a table eating, debating, tasting vino. Great photos Whitney…but you cut my face in half on one of them. lol.

Thanks Whitney. Your pictures are amazing as usual. You really got the ‘Single Man’ vibe spot on in the MG picture. We’re getting our booze program started up next week so you’ll have to come down and slang some drank. Kold Draft ice machine on order!!!
